Description

Egypt, Alexandria. Dattari. Trajan, 98-117 Drachm circa 110-111 (year 14), Æ 34.5mm., 23.37g. Laureate bust r. Rev. Sarapis standing facing, head l., holding vexillum and sceptre; at feet l., Cerberus; in field, L-IΔ. RPC 4532 (this coin illustrated). Dattari-Savio Pl. 49, 1023 (this coin). Dattari 1023 and Pl. XXIII (this rev. Illustrated).

Apparenlty unique, nice brown-green patina, About Very Fine/Very Fine.

From the Dattari collection. Apparently unique. Illustrated in RPC and Dattari.

Vogt, p. 85, suggests a link between Sarapis and Roman troops in Egypt; cf. the vexillum probably present beside the temple of Sarapis on coins of year 2.
