Description

Constantius I Caesar, 293-305 Plated electrotype of an AV Medallion Treveri after a Treveri (Trier) issued 297, - 42mm., 26.00g. Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust r. Rev. Constantius, holding spear, on horseback r., approaching kneeling Britannia with outstretched arms before the city gates of London; below Constantius, galley with four soldiers sailing right; LON below Britannia, PTR in exergue. Cf. RIC VI 34 = Arras 218 = Kent-Hirmer pl. 152, 585 = Toynbee pl. 8, 4 (for original).

Copy of medallions from the Arras Hoard made by the Parisian dealer M. Etienne Bourgey in the 1920s. From the E.E. Clain-Stefanelli collection. Privately purchased from Spink in 1928.

A copy of the famous and unique medallion from the Arras Hoard, showing Constantius entering the city of London after recovering Britannia from Allectus. In addition, winning bids of EEC clients for this coin are subject to a 5% fee on hammer price as a reimbursement for import duty paid to HMRC.
