Description

Hadrian, 117-138 Drachm Alexandria circa 130-131 (year 15), Æ 34mm., 23.61g. Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right. Rev. Hadrian standing left, holding scepter, greeted by Alexandria, clad in elephant skin headdress, chiton, and peplos, holding two grain ears and kissing Hadrian's extended hand; below [LIE]. Dattari 1610. Geissen 1034.

Dark patina and fine.

This issue celebrate the emperor’s visit to Alexandria in 130. It was during this visit that Hadrian’s favorite, Antinous, drowned in the Nile.
