Description

General Works. Babelon, E. Les médailles historiques du regne de Napoléon le Grand, empereur et roi. Publiées sous les auspices de la Société de Numismatique de New-York. Paris; Ernest Leroux, 1912. Thick folio, pp. superb full-length portrait of Napoléon as frontispiece with protective tissue guard, title printed in red and black with a fine vignette depicting the mounted bust of the emperor, (3), lx, 430, (2); 201 medals finely illustrated throughout the text, each within ornamental border. Printed on especially fine, thick paper throughout. In later black half morocco and red cloth boards, raised bands, gilt, red morocco title label in the second compartment of the spine, the top edge red, marbled endpapers. A little worn and scuffed at the extremities, mostly to the spine, the upper hinges cracked but internally clean and bright and from the library of A. Tansini with his library label on the front pastedown. A very impressive, grand work, number 470 of a limited edition printed for the American Numismatic Society. Almost fine.
