France. Belfort, A. de, Description générale des monnaies mérovingiennes par ordre alphabétique des ateliers. Paris; au Siège de la Société Française de Numismatique, 1892–1895. Complete in five volumes. Large 8vo., pp. viii, 484; 464; 464; 476; 290; 5 beautifully engraved plates by Dardel in volume one, further illustrations throughout the text. All five volumes attractively bound in brown quarter morocco and marbled boards with the original printed wrappers preserved, raised bands, the spines lettered direct in gilt, marbled endpapers throughout. A trifle shelfworn, but little used and the contents clean and bright. A very fine, original set of this classic work based on the research done by the Vicomte Ponton d’Amécourt and listing 6,704 coins with most illustrated. Still essential for the series and very rarely offered. (5)
Clain-Stefanelli 5741*. Grierson p. 119. Kroh p. 97 (four stars), “still one of the best research tools for the Merovingian coinage.”
