The Roman Empire
Paulina, wife of Maximinus I
Paulina’s only portrait type bears a surprisingly close resemblance to that of her husband and son Maximus’; one wonders whether this is a faithful depiction or if it is simply a device employed to show dynastic continuity. The next two coins are typical examples. AMP. Denarius circa 236, AR 2.92 g. DIVA PAVLINA Veiled and draped bust r. Rev. CONSECRATIO Peacock standing facing, head l., tail in splendour. C 1.
