Calabria, Tarentum

Stater circa 276-272, AV 19 mm, 8.56 g. Head of young Heracles r., wearing lion’s skin headdress. Rev. NIKAΡ Taras in prancing biga r., wearing chlamys and holding trident; in exergue, TAΡANTINΩN. Vlasto 23 (these dies). Jameson 158 (these dies). BMC 12 (these dies). Fischer-Bossert G24. Historia Numorum Italy 984.
Very rare and in exceptional condition for the issue, undoubtedly among the finest
specimens known. A portrait of masterly style perfectly struck in high relief.
