Description

Tetradrachm, Seleucia on the Tigris circa 161-150, AR 30 mm, 16.49 g. Diademed head of Demetrius I r. Fillet border. Rev. BAΣΙΛΕΩΣ – ΔHMHTPIOY – ΣΩTHPOΣ Tyche, holding sceptre and cornucopiae, seated l. on throne supported by tritoness r.; in outer l. field, monogram and palm branch and in inner l. field, XO monogram at the bottom of the sceptre. SNG Spaer 1360 var. (no monogram listed at the end of sceptre). SC 1690.1 var. (no monogram listed at the end of sceptre).
An apparently unpublished variety. Traces of overstriking, otherwise good very fine

Overstruck on a tetradrachm of Timarchos.
