AN INTERESTING COLLECTION OF ROMAN REPUBLICAN COINS FORMED BY AN ENGLISH AMATEUR SCHOLAR
As, Luceria 211-207 or later, Æ 24.53 g. Laureate head of Janus. Rev. Prow r.; above, mark of value and before, L. Below, ROMA. Sydenham 122. RBW –, cf. 418. Crawford 97/22a.
An extremely rare variety. Possibly overstrike on a triens
Luceria (Crawford 43/3). Brown tone and very fine
With mintmark L on reverse. Of the 20 examples of Crawford 97/22a in Paris BNF, 19 have a mintmark on the obverse only, and one has a mintmark on the reverse only as per this coin. Thus, extremely rare.
