Lucania, Heraclea.
Stater circa 281-278, AR 6.91 g. |-HPAKΛHIΩ – N Head of Athena r., wearing Corinthian helmet decorated with Scylla; in l. field, E. Rev. Heracles standing facing, lion-skin over l. arm, holding bow and two arrows and resting r. on club; in l. field, APIΣ. In the upper l. field, owl standing r. Work 90. McClean 845 (these dies). SNG ANS 78. Van Kauren 87. Historia Numorum Italy 1385.
Wonderful old cabinet tone, three edge nicks, otherwise good very fine

Ex F. Schlessinger 4 February 1935, duplicates of Hermitage, 67 and Glendining 18-20 April 1955, count de Laval, 98 sales. From an Exceptional Collection assembled between the early 70s and late 90s.
