Calabria, Tarentum.
Nomos circa 425-415, AR 7.99 g. Dolphin rider l., extending r. hand and holding shield in l.; below, pecten. Rev. Oecist seated l., holding spindle and strigil with lekythos. Vlasto 245 (this coin). Fischer-Bossert Group 269a (this coin). SNG Ashmolean 233 (these dies). Historia Numorum Italy 844.
Very rare and in exceptional condition for the issue. Of superb style and with a lovely
old cabinet tone. Minor cleaning marks, otherwise about extremely fine

From the Vlasto, Venturi Ginori and Charles Gillet collections and an Exceptional Collection assembled between the early 70s and late 90s. From the South of Italy hoard of 1898.
