Description

Domitian caesar, 69 – 81.  Uncertain mint in Asia, Ephesus (?). Denarius 76, AR 2.96 g. CAES AVG F DOM[IT COS III] Laureate and bearded head r.; below neck truncation, o. Rev. COS – VII Eagle standing facing, head r. on altar with open wings. C –. BMC Vespasian 493. RIC Vespasian 1487. CBN –. RPC 1464.
Extremely rare, only the third and by far the finest of the two in private hands.
Light iridescent tone, surface somewhat porous and obverse
slightly off-centre, otherwise good very fine
