*** Leovigild spent a lot of time battling both internal and external enemies. He decided to move the new capital to Toledo and conquered the Suevi, incorporating their kingdom, and defeated the Basques, the Byzantines and the Franks. His elder son Hermenegild became Catholic after his marriage with the Merovingian princess Ingundis and rebelled against his father with the support of the Catholic Suevi. Leovigild crushed the revolt and the Catholics were persecuted until the end of his reign.
