Description

Bavaria, Kingdom, Ludwig I (1825-48), Rheingold ducat, 1830, Latin legend ludovicus i bavariae rex, small bare head right, rev., augusta nemetum, view of the cathedral and city of Speyer across the Rhine, in ex., ex auro rheni mdcccxxx, edge diagonally grained, 3.48g (Witt. 2713; AKS 70; F. 275; KM 758), struck on a slightly uneven flan with very minor surface marks, good extremely fine, with much original mint bloom. Struck from about 4kg of alluvial gold recovered from the Rhine and delivered to Speyer in 1829-30.
