Andrea Briosco, called Riccio (1470-1532), An Allegory, bronze plaquette, made for the side of a casket or sand-box; on the left, an upturned amphora and figure of winged Victory seated on a globe, inscribing a shield, in the centre a winged and bearded male figure (Chronos?) sits on a lion, holding a club and another object; on the right is a seated and fully veiled female who feeds a child standing before her and with a second child at her back; she holds a rudder beside which is a large jar inscribed VIR, 46.6 x 101.8mm (Molinier 415; Bange 376C and 377; Kress 231), twice pierced, a very fine contemporary cast with brown patina, rare Provenance: John R.
