Ptolemaic Empire, Ptolemy II (283-246 BC), gold mnaieion (octadrachm), Alexandria, c. 254/3-253/2 BC, diademed and veiled head of Arsinoe II right, lotus-sceptre over far shoulder; behind, Θ, rev., ΑΡΣΙΝΟΗΣ ΦΙΛΑΔΕΛΦΟΥ, double cornucopia bound with royal diadem, 27.80g, die axis 12.00 (CPE 388; Svoronos 460, pl. 15, 12; Troxell pl. 6, 2-3 and p. 43), edge marks at 1 and 7-8 o’clock, extremely fine. Provenance: Hess-Leu 45, 12 May 1970, lot 404.
