Afghanistan, 1878-80, no clasp (Lieut: H. O. Piers. 5/11th Bde. R.A.), about extremely fine with some lustre Lieutenant Colonel Henry Octavius Piers was born in 1856 in Plymouth, Devon, a descendent of the Piers baronets. He received his first commission as a Lieutenant in the Royal Artillery on 19 August 1875. He served in the Second Afghan War with 5 Battery, 11th Brigade (receiving his no clasp medal, roll confirms), and was later promoted to Captain on 31 May 1884, to Major on 13 May 1892, and to Lieutenant Colonel on 10 January 1902.
