Afghanistan, 1878-80, no clasp (5078. Gunnr. F. G. Rose, E. Batt: B. Bde. R.H.A.), polished with some edge nicks, bruises and minor abrasions, good fine / about very fine Gunner F. G. Rose served during the Second Afghan War with ‘E’ Battery, ‘B’ Brigade, Royal Horse Artillery, which fought bravely at the Battle of Maiwand on 27 July 1880 (see lot 266). Additionally, the medal roll shows ‘Sick at Quetta’ with the much later date of ‘29/6/82’ – most likely relating to the time of medal issue.Ex William Auld Collection
