Maharajpoor Star, 1843, with contemporary replacement silver hook and bar suspension (Serjt George Storey H.M. 16th Lancers), minor wear to points of star, otherwise good very fine Sergeant George Storey was born c.1812 in Acklam, near Stockton upon Tees, County Durham, initially attesting for service with the 69th Foot on 12 September 1830. Purchasing his own discharge on 20 June 1833, he then attested for service with the 16th Lancers at Leeds on 10 June 1834. Promoted Corporal on 5 June 1841, and then to Sergeant on 11 November 1843, he served in India between 18 December 1835 and 11 August 1846, during which time he saw active service during the First Afghan War, the Gwalior Campaign, and the First Sikh War, where he was present at the Battles of Aliwal (being present during the 16th Lancers’ famous charge), and Sobraon (his Sutlej Medal is known to be extant). He was later reduced to the rank of Private and discharged at Manchester on 31 October 1851 after 17 years and 138 days’ service. Sold with copied service record.Ex D.N.W., 15 September 2021, lot 314
