Charles I, Sir Thomas Fairfax, Military Reward, 1645, cast and chased silver badge, obv., armoured and mantled bust of Fairfax left, rev., legend POST. HAC. MELIORA around ME/RVIS/TI, date ∙1645∙ below, 27 x 20mm (M.I. I/318/151; Platt vol. II, p. 98, type B; Eimer 146), with integral suspension ring, extremely fine and of high quality, well toned Bestowed by Parliament and the City of London following the appointment of Fairfax as General-in-Chief of the Parliamentary army and probably awarded to those who had fought with him at the battle of Naseby.Provenance: Paul Christensen collection.
