Description

Charles I, Oxford mint, halfcrown, 1646, m.m. Oxford plume on obverse only, obv., horseman of neater style riding over pebbly ground, plume behind, rev., five pellets as initial mark, EXVRGAT... legend starts at 2 o’clock, Declaration with three equal size Oxford plumes above, date and OX below, pellets placed decoratively in field, 14.13g (Morr. C-3; Brooker 922; N. 2433; S. 2961), double-struck, about very fine Provenance: R. Carlyon-Britton (portions of collection purchased by B.A. Seaby, 1940-61); Seaby’s Coin and Medal Bulletin, August 1959, (5890).
