Description

Sardinia, Al Valore Militare, reverse engraved in capitals Guerre d’Italie 1859 around wreath and (Bustin A. S. Lieut. Zouav. G.I) within, very fine and toned Aimé Bustin joined the 66th Regiment in 1844, and after leaving the army for six months he re-enlisted with the 58th Regiment in June 1850, transferring to the 13th Battalion Chasseurs à Pied and thence to Battalion of Chasseurs à pied de Garde Imperial in in July 1854. In 1857 he was commissioned into 12th Battalion Chasseurs à Pied, transferring later that year to the Regiment of Zouaves de Garde Imperial, achieving his captaincy in 1869. He later served with the 3rd Zouaves (1869-70) and his final posting was with the 4th Zouaves (1870-72), retiring at the end of 1872. His military service included the Siege of Rome 1849, Crimea 1855, Italy 1859, Africa 1869-70 and again 1871-72, Franco-Prussian War 1870-71; in 1860 he was part of the Honour Guard of the Empress of Russia in Nice, and appears in a group photograph taken at the time. In addition to the Sardinian medal he was also nominated to the Légion d’Honneur 17 May 1864 (Dossie No LH/397/107), with copied research.
