The following is taken from L’Moniteur Universe 5 February 1843. ‘On October 15 and 25, 1842 two fires broke out, one at Locminé (Morbihan), the other at Longwy (Moselle). All the troops garrisoning these two towns showed zeal and rendered great service. Eight of them were particularly identified, bursting into the midst of the flames, either to fight the fire’s progress, or to save precious objects or money, which they hastened to hand over to their owners, without wishing to accept reward.’
