North Italy (late 15th century), Sacrifice to Aphrodite, large bronze plaquette, two male figures stand at an altar behind which is a statue of Aphrodite on a column, 122mm (cf. Bange 610; Maclagan p. 47; Morgenroth 262; Rossi (2006) 10), late cast, with dark patina Ex Alain Edrei (1931-2021) collection, Paris [inventory number 154 in red on reverse]; ex Sotheby’s Paris, 10 November 2009, lot 4. The best example of this rare plaquette is in Berlin, uniquely inscribed to a certain Tomasso Calisto and dated 12 January 1482.
