During the Revolutionary Land War he rose from Column Commander to Colonel of the 81st Regiment, 1-27th Division, 9th Red Army Group and was a participant in the “Long March”.In the war against Japan, he held the posts of Assistant-General of Staff in the New 4th Army, Commander in Chief of the Jiangsu Military Area and President of the East China Communist Military and Political College; during the War of Liberation, he held the command of several field armies and participated in many of the major battles against the Kuomintang. After the establishment of the People’s Republic in 1949 he became Deputy Commander of the Chinese Navy, in addition to other senior appointments. He received promotion to Lieutenant-General in 1955.
Lot 599 - the photograph with the medals is definitely of Major-General Zhang Dao Yung, however the medals can only be attributed to him and are offered as such.
