*Charles I and his Grandson William III, Prince of Orange, hollow silver-gilt medal, c. 1661, by Peter van Abeele, three-quarter facing bust of Charles I right, hair long, ornate lace collar, scroll of roses either side against stipples background; CAROLVS D I, rev., the young prince on horseback right, wearing doublet and plumed hat and holding baton; a river and townscape in background, WILHELMVS III D G PRINC AVRAICÆ COM NASS Ec, 70 mm (cf. MI I/449/33 for obv. and I/472/75 for rev.; Frederiks 13/13c), small piercing (now filled with wax), extremely fine and extremely rare. Medallic Illustrations dates the reverse image to 1661, on the appointment of the eleven-year-old William, grandson of Charles I, as a Knight of the Garter.
