Description

*Italy, Andrea Briosco called Riccio (c. 1470-1532), The Sacrifice of a Swine, double-sided bronze plaquette, within a temple with classical columns two kneeling youths perform the sacrifice in the centre foreground with numerous figures looking on, 75 x 92mm (Molinier 235; Bange 369; Planiscig p. 492, 231 and fig. 343; Kress 217, fig. 114; Toderi, Bargello, 199-201), very fine old or early cast, dark patina. Usually found as a single-sided plaquette, some of which are signed on their reverses, there is a double-sided version, as here, in the Bibliothèque Nationale, Paris and another was in the Adams sale, Bonham’s 1996, lot 91 (resold here 9th June 2009, lot 368).
