Description

Samanid, Nasr b. Ahmad (301-331h), dinar, Hamadan 329h, obv., in field: Khalaf (?) | la ilaha illa | Allah wahdahu | la sharik lahu, rev., in field: lillah | Muhammad | rasul Allah | al-Radi billah | Nasr b. Ahmad; to left: Nasr min lillah; to right: wa fath qarib, 3.38g (cf Bernardi 300Mu (without vertical legends to left and right of reverse field)), some flat striking, almost very fine and excessively rare, apparently unpublished. While Bernardi records several Samanid dinars struck at al-Muhammadiya during the 320s which bear the additional legend Nasr min lillah wa fath qarib (Bernardi 301Mh), no coins of this type appear to be known for the mint of Hamadan. Khalaf, if the name on the obverse is correctly read, has not yet been identified.

Estimate: GBP 700 - 1000
