Description

*An Important Campaign Group of 6 awarded to Surgeon Major J. F. G. Burke, R.A.M.C., comprising: Egypt, 1882-89, reverse dated 1882, no clasp (Civil Surgn. J. F. G. Burke); Indian General Service, 1854-95, single clasp, Burma 1885-7 (Surgn J. F. Burke Medl Staff.); Ashanti, 1896, unnamed as issued; East and West Africa, 1887-1900, single clasp, Sierra Leone 1898-99 (Major J. F. G. Burke, R.A.M.C.), officially re-impressed; Queen’s South Africa, 1899-1902, 3rd type reverse, single clasp, Natal (Major J. F. Burke. R.A.M.C.); Khedive’s Star, 1882-91, dated 1882, unnamed as issued; Group loose, toned, light surface marks from wear, generally good very fine, and rare (6). Surgeon-Major J. F. Burke first served in Egypt as a Civil Surgeon prior to joining the Army’s Medical Staff as Surgeon-Major, soon afterwards serving in the Burma Campaign of 1885-7 (roll confirms). He saw service in West Africa during the Sierra Leone campaign of 1898-99 (roll confirms), and during the Boer War (roll confirms), with entitlement to the ‘Natal’ clasp.
