Description
*Afghanistan, 1878-1880, no clasp (No.49. Qr. Mr. Havildar Benjamin Israel. 16. Bo. N.I.), toned, good very fine. The recipient appears to have been a member of the Bene Israel (or ‘children of Israel’) community in Bombay. This ancient Jewish community was largely based in Bombay (modern Mumbai) and at one time numbered up to 25,000 individuals.
