*Turkish Crimea, 1855-56, British issue (engraved in contemporary caps (J. Rodger.(sic) 2nd Dragoons), very fine, with copied discharge papers and extract from Edward Almack “The History of the Second Dragoons.” 786 Private James Rodgers is listed by Dutton as having probably ridden in the Charge of the Heavy Brigade. He was born in St Cuthbert’s Edinburgh, February 1826 and enlisted underage in Brighton in December 1841, He was imprisoned for three weeks in December 1847 for habitual drunkenness and again in January 1848 for eight months for disgraceful conduct “theft”. He was discharged in February 1857 as unfit for further service. His three-clasp impressed Crimea was in the Payne collection and was sold at Glendining’s, 27 June 1994.
