Description

Ancient (World)
Silver Unit
Central Thailand/Burma, Mon Kingdom of Dvaravati (300 -450/550 AD), Sudhammpura, Silver Unit (88 Rattis), Obv: Buddhist 12-spoked wheel of Dharmachakra, Rev: dynastic symbol Srivatsa containing crescent inside, 9.5g, 18.8mm, (Mitch. ACW # 5208), choice very fine, bold strike, Rare.

Note: Kingdom of Dvaravati existed between 3rd to 11th Century AD and its territory included present day Thailand's central Chaopya basin, up to Lumpun on the north and spanning across the lower part of Burma, to the Bay of Bengal on west. It was the first Mon kingdom established in what is now Thailand and played an important role as a propagator of Indian culture. Situated in the lower Chao Phraya River valley. Dvaravati was prevented by geographic barriers from establishing close political ties with other Mon states to the west in southern Myanmar (Burma) and with the Mon state in northern Thailand. The center of the Kingdom is presumably situated in around present day U-thong area in Central Thailand. This type of coins is found across from South Burma and Nakon Prathom province and Suphanburi, central Thailand.
Estimate: INR 10000 - 15000
