★ Very scarce Augustus PONTIF MAXIM!! ★
Roman Empire - Augustus (27 B.C. - 14 A.D.) Silver denarius (3.72 g. 17 mm.) Lugdunum (Lyon, France), minted around 13 / 14 A.D.
CAESAR AVGVSTVS DIVI F PATER PATRIAE, laureate head right.
PONTIF MAXIM, Livia as Pax seated right, holding sceptre and olive branch; plain chair legs.
RIC I 220; BMCRE 545; RSC 223.
This reverse type became the dominant design in the Tiberius denarius, but examples with the obverse of Augustus are always rare to see! Good very fine, nice old cabinet patina.
