Description

Roman Empire - Geta (AD 198-211). Silver denarius (3,20 g., 21 mm.) Minted in Rome, 211 A.D.

P SEPT GETA PIVS AVG BRIT, laureate head of Geta right.

TR P III COS II P P, Janus standing facing, holding inverted spear and thunderbolt.

RIC 79; BMC 13; RSC 197.

Good very fine. Lovely portrait!!
Very scarce! Attractive old cabinet silver toning.

Geta's resemblance to Septimius Severus, which according to Dio Cassius endeared him to the army, comes out well in the full-bearded portrait on this coin.
