Description

★ Scarce Province series, ITALIA ★

Roman Empire - Hadrian (117-138 A.D.). Silver Denarius (3,13 g., 18 mm.). Rome 134-138 A.D.

HADRIANVS AVG COS III P P, laureate head right.

ITALIA, Italia standing left, holding sceptre and cornucopiae.

RIC 307.

Good very fine condition, nice heroic portrait, beautiuful soft silver old cabinet toning.

This coin is part of Hadrian's Travel series throughout the Roman Empire. His tours apparently served to inspect the borders of the empire which had experienced a significant expansion under Trajan. Italia all though did not have any boarders or outposts and was more likely to have been used as start or return point of the travel series.
