Description

Shilling 1944 English, Specimen striking, unlisted by ESC, Davies or Bull who all list VIP Proofs. The fields superior to the currency pieces but lacking the frosting associated with the VIP Proofs of the period. The appearance is not dissimilar to Polished die coins. 5.64 grammes, UNC and lustrous, the specimen strikings said to be rarer than the VIP Proofs. We note a pair of 1966 English and Scottish Specimen Shillings (Lots 1888 and 1889) in similar grades sold in London Coins Auction A161 3/6/2018 for £500 and £680 hammer price respectively
