Description

Australia Sovereign 1856 Sydney Branch Mint, First Bust type, Marsh 361 in an NGC holder 'VF Details - Obverse Repaired'. Close examination on the obverse legend reveals the D of F:D: is overstruck, with a double upright and a point outside the lower right curve of the D. (possibly D over L?). Examination of archive pictures for other examples of this date has revealed no further specimens displaying this feature. We also note that PCGS have slabbed more 1855 Sydney Sovereigns than 1856.

Estimate: GBP 2000 - 3000
