DOC 1a (Demetrius Comnenus-Ducas). Liante, 436 (Demetrius Comnenus-Ducas). SB 2225 (Demetrius Comnenus-Ducas). Tencho Popov: Unpublished coins of the Empire of Thessalonica, Nicaea and late Byzantium' in: Minalo 3/2019, p. 5 ( this coin ). Very rare. The flan slightly wavy and with an edge crack, otherwise, very fine.

From a collection of coins from the medieval Balkans, ex Classical Numismatic Group 111, 29 May 2019, 884 (with original ticket) and Naumann 62, 4 February 2018, 955.

T. Popov argues against the usual attribution of this anonymous issue to Demetrius Comnenus-Ducas (1244-1246) and places it at the beginning of the Comneni coinage in Thessalonica, right before Theodore Comnenus Ducas was crowned emperor of Thessalonica in 1227.
