★ Very rare and attractive ★

THRACE. Philippopolis. Commodus, 177-192. Tetrassarion (Bronze, 25 mm, 11.27 g, 7 h). ΑΥ KAI ΜΑP ΑΥΡΗ ΚOΜOΔO/ С Laureate head of Commodus to right. Rev. ΦΙΛΙΠΠΟΠΟΛΕΙΤΩΝ Apollo standing front, head to left, holding phiale in his right hand and branch in his left; to left before him, lighted altar. RPC IV.1 online -. Varbanov -, cf. 981 (differing obverse legend). Very rare. A boldly struck and very attractive issue. The obverse struck slightly off center, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
