Description

CALABRIA. Tarentum. Circa 365-355 BC. Didrachm or Nomos (Silver, 21 mm, 7.58 g, 9 h). Nude youth riding horse standing right, holding bridle with his left hand; to right, bearded herm left; below horse, TH. Rev. ΤΑΡΑΣ Youthful oikist, nude and with wild flowing hair, riding dolphin to left, holding oinochoe in his right hand and resting his left on the dolphin. Fischer-Bossert 569 (V229/R434). Vlasto 409. Struck from slightly worn dies, otherwise, very fine.

From an old Swiss collection, formed in the 1970s.
