★ A very unusual weight of 1 nomisma with a single imperial portrait ★
Byzantine Weights, Circa 4th-5th centuries. Weight of 1 Nomisma (Bronze, 13x15 mm, 4.22 g), a uniface square coin weight with plain edges. Draped and nimbate facing imperial bust; all details engraved, the face inlaid in silver. Rev. Blank except for centering hole. Bendall -, cf. 106 (with two imperial busts). MAH -. cf. 423 (with two imperial busts). Pera -. A very unusual piece. A few deposits, otherwise, good very fine.
Byzantine weights showing one imperial bust as opposed to the more common pieces with two busts are in fact very rare: Bendall knew of not a single example.
