Description

★ A very unusual and interesting imitation muling an Ilhkhanid and an Eretnid type ★

ISLAMIC, Mongols. Ilkhanids. Toghay Temür, circa AH 739-754 / AD 1338-1353. Dirham (Silver, 16 mm, 1.11 g), a contemporary local imitation from an irregular mint. Legend in crude and blundered Arabic in circle with three equidistant notches and in inner margin. Rev. Legend in crude and blundered Arabic within trefoil and inner margin. A very unusual and interesting coin. Light areas of weakness, otherwise, good very fine.

This interesting and crude imitation erroneously combines the circle with three equidistant notches design of the Ilkhan Taghay Timur (Album 2239) with the trefoil design of the Eretnid ruler Muhammad b. Eretna (Album 2323).
