CORINTHIA. Corinth. Septimius Severus, 193-211. Diassarion (Orichalcum, 24 mm, 5.90 g, 12 h). L SEP SEV KV [... SEP SVE]PS (sic!) Laureate head of Septimius Severus to right. Rev. C L I COR The tomb of Lais of Corinth: Capital of a Doric column; atop, a lioness standing to right on a prostrate ram. BCD Corinth -. NCP p. 19, 14. Very rare. Fine.

From a European collection, formed before 2005.

The reverse of this coin shows the tomb of Lais of Corinth (late 5th-early 4th century BC), a famous hetaira or courtesan and lover of Aristippos and Eubotas of Kyrene, and perhaps of the famous philosopher Diogenes the Cynic.
