Alexius I Comnenus, 1081-1118. Histamenon (Electrum, 26 mm, 4.32 g, 6 h), Thessalonica, 1082-1087. +ΚЄ RO ΑΛЄΖ Nimbate bust of Christ facing, wearing tunic and pallium, holding book of Gospels in his left hand; in fields, IC - XC. Rev. •/ΔΙ/ΜI/T/I - Δ/ЄC/Π/T/T St. Demetrius, on the left, nimbate and in military attire, standing right, holding sword in his left hand and presenting patriarchal cross set on globe and two steps to Alexius, on the right, wearing crown and loros, standing facing and holding shaft of cross with his right hand. DOC 5a. Hendy pl. 1, 10. SB 1905. Lightly toned and fresh and with a particularly sharp reverse, a very attractive piece. The obverse a bit weak, otherwise, good extremely fine.
