Description

Augustus, 27 BC-AD 14. Cistophorus (Silver, 26 mm, 11.98 g, 12 h), Ephesus, circa 25-20 BC. IMP•CAE-SAR Bare head of Augustus to right. Rev. AVGVSTVS Capricorn to right, head turned to left, bearing cornucopiae on its back; all within laurel wreath. Cohen 16. RIC 480. RPC I 2213. Sutherland Group V, - (-/-). Nicely toned and with an elegant portrait. Very small delaminations on the obverse and the reverse struck slightly off center, otherwise, good very fine.

From the collection of an East German physicist, assembled before 2000 (with collector's ticket).
