★ Sharply struck on excellent metal and with a bold portrait of distinctive style ★

KINGS OF THRACE. Lysimachos, 305-281 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 29 mm, 17.18 g, 3 h), Lysimacheia, circa 297/6-282/1. Diademed head of Alexander the Great to right, with horn of Ammon over his ear. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ - ΛΥΣΙΜΑΧΟΥ Athena seated left, holding Nike, crowning the king's name, in her right hand and leaning with her left arm on shield decorated with lion's head; behind, transverse spear; in inner left field, head of a lion to left; on throne, monogram. Dewing 1351. HGC 3.2, 1750a. Müller 51. SNG Fitzwilliam 1848. Thompson 16. An exceptional, beautifully toned piece. Sharply struck on excellent metal and with a bold portrait of distinctive style. Thin flan crack, otherwise, good extremely fine.

From the Basileiai Hellēnikai Collection of Exceptional Tetradrachms, ex Leu 13, 27 May 2023, 44, and previously from an old Swiss collection, started in the 19th century.
