KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 27 mm, 17.19 g, 11 h), Memphis, struck under Ptolemy I as satrap, circa 322/1. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. AΛEΞANΔPOY Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle standing right with closed wings in his right; in field to left, rose; below throne, ΔIO. CPE 18. Price 3971 var. (ΔI-O below throne). SNG Copenhagen 8. A lovely example of this prestigious issue, nicely toned, boldly struck in high relief and of fine style. A few light marks, otherwise, extremely fine.
