★ An upublished 1/8 Stater with a beautiful geometric design ★
IONIA. Uncertain. Circa 600-550 BC. 1/8 Stater (?) (Electrum, 8 mm, 1.78 g). Stellate floral pattern. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square. BMC -. Linzalone -. Rosen -. SNG Kayhan -. SNG von Aulock -. Svoronos, HPM -. Traité I, -. Vismara, Arcaica -. Weidauer -. Apparently unpublished. A magnificent piece, boldly struck in exceptionally high relief and with a beautiful geometric design. Very light deposits, otherwise, about extremely fine.
From a European collection, formed before 2005. This exceptionally sharp piece, struck in an incredibly high relief, appears to be unpublished so far. The design primarily features two stacked dice with decorative elements on top, forming a beautiful geometric pattern. The denomination remains unclear: weighing 1.78 g, it is certainly too light for a hekte, and may possibly be a 1/8 stater, a very rare denomination in this period. For a vaguely similar coin in weight but with a more basic design, see Nomos 33 (2024), 1307 (which misleadingly describes the obverse as possibly depicting a Silphion plant)
