SICILY. Syracuse. Timoleon and the Third Democracy, 344-317 BC. Hemilitron (Bronze, 17 mm, 3.37 g, 12 h), circa 344-339/8. ΖΕΥΣ ΕΛ-ΕΥΘΕΡ[ΙΟΣ] Laureate head of Zeus to left. Rev. Σ-Υ-ΡΑ-ΚΟ-ΣΙ-Ω-Ν Octopus. Castrizio Series I, 3. CNS II, 75. HGC 2, 1483. SNG Copenhagen 731. SNG ANS -. SNG Lloyd 1461. Very rare. A wonderful example of fine style with a very attractive dark green patina. Slightly smoothed and with minor deposits, otherwise, about extremely fine.
