SICILY. Segesta. Circa 412/10-400 BC. Didrachm (Silver, 24 mm, 8.24 g, 3 h). The river-god Krimisos, in the form of a hunting dog, standing right, on the scent; above, diademed small head of the nymph Aigeste to right. Rev. ΣEΓEΣT-[A 𐤆]IB Head of the nymph Aigeste to right, her hair rolled up and bound with a ribbon; all within shallow circular incuse. HGC 2, 1142. Hurter 156a and pl. 14, 156 ( this coin, V45/R91). SNG ANS 641 ( same obverse die ). Struck from dies of fine style on a ragged but exceptionally broad flan. Light scratches and with some die breaks on the reverse, otherwise, very fine.
